So you are here on vacation or visiting because you are interested in buying a home?! You’ve enjoyed hanging at the Inlet with man’s best friend all day and you are ready for a bite, good news! You can find pet-friendly restaurants sprinkled through out our famous beach town. Where are some of the pet friendly areas, you ask! Let’s start with river side & beach side New Smyrna Beach. If you head down Flager Ave or Canal Street you & your furry friend will find quite a few options of eateries that offer pet-friendly areas to dine. Most of our team’s favorite spot to frequent is Yellow Dog Eats, there is an open area in the back accommodating to furies of all shapes and sizes as well as a special doggie section on the menu made especially for them. Another thing to point out is some of the friendly resturant owners set out water bowls to help keep our furry loved ones well-hydrated through-out the walk of these two streets. Moving from beachside to mainland, do you remember growing up in NSB and getting your traditional sundae after church? Make your way down to the old historic Dairy Queen on 44 you will find that they offer little sundae treats for your fur babies as well. Taco Shack is another spot welcoming animal lovers. You can dine outside in an open area and enjoy some of our favorite tacos in town because we all know taco Tuesdays are the best. When you and your pups bellies are full you can relax at a local park or go for a leash-less walk in Volusia at some of these places below.
Volusia County owns and operates four dog parks where dogs are allowed to run off their leashes:

Barkley Square Dog Park – 14 acres
1010 N. Ridgewood Ave., DeLand
Barkley Square Dog Park encompasses more than 14 acres and provides areas for large dogs, small dogs, training events, and time-out spaces. The dog park is on a parcel of land with many trees and even a small, lined pond in the large dog area.
Beck Ranch Park – 25 acres
751 S. State Road 415, Osteen (3.9 miles south of Howland Boulevard)
The 25-acre Beck Ranch Park, located on the 250 acre Beck Ranch, includes a dog park with separate areas for large and small dogs.
Gemini Springs Dog Park – 4.5 acres
37 Dirksen Drive, DeBary
A 4.5-acre fenced area of Gemini Springs Park with two sections – one for small dogs 25 pounds and under and another for large dogs over 25 pounds. The park includes shaded areas, dog wash stations, water fountains for dogs, benches and picnic tables.
Michael Crotty Bicentennial Park – 4 acres
1800 N. Ocean Shore Blvd., Ormond-by-the-Sea
Volusia County opened a four-acre dog park at Bicentennial Park in 2010. The dog park includes separate areas for large and small dogs, watering stations, benches and shade trees.
Pets are welcome at all county parks as long as their owners abide by the following rules.
- Pets must be kept under restraint and control at all times. The penalty for violation is $55.
- Owners must clean up after their pet. The penalty for violation is $55.
- Dangerous or aggressive animals will not be tolerated in any park. The penalty for violation is up to $500.
Though most of the beach in NSB restricts non service animals from walking in the soft powder sand on the main beach, you can still find that you can actually enjoy that experience on the inlet shore with your fur family at Smyrna Dunes Park($10 per vehicle or $20 annual pass).
